UVA AI Policy, Usage, and Guidelines Committee
About
The Policy, Usage, and Guidelines Committee (PUG) establishes and maintains academic division-wide policies and guidance to support the ethical, appropriate, and compliant use of AI at the University of Virginia.
Through its work, PUG helps establish guardrails and standards for responsible AI use across the academic division. Its work includes safeguarding University data and intellectual property; ensuring appropriate human engagement in high-value decisions involving AI; guiding the availability and appropriate use of AI tools; identifying ethical and legal risks; helping the University understand and meet evolving governmental and regulatory requirements; and aligning AI use with the University’s strategic goals.
PUG works in close partnership with the AI in Teaching and Learning, AI Research @ UVA, and AI in Administration and Operations governance committees to coordinate guidance, share informationand best practices, and understand how AI is affecting educational outcomes and institutional practices across the academic division.
